Marc Smulders
Marc Smulders is Country Head for the Democratic Republic of the Congo at Imbono, where he oversees the company’s operations in both the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo.
Marc brings more than three decades of experience across shipping, logistics and international trade, with a career closely connected to emerging markets and particularly to Africa. He spent 27 years with NileDutch and Hapag-Lloyd, holding senior leadership roles in commercial operations, international business development and regional management across Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
Marc has also spent more than 28 years living and working in Angola, where he initially led a commodity trading business before later returning to manage NileDutch’s Angola operations. Throughout his career, he has developed deep regional knowledge and long-standing relationships across the continent’s logistics and trade sectors.
His connection to Africa began early in his career, with formative visits to Ivory Coast and Cameroon in the early 1990s that left a lasting impression of the resilience, entrepreneurial spirit and economic potential of the region. Since then, Marc has remained committed to supporting development and growth across the markets in which he works.
